SeaTac International Airport
Our team was brought in to assist with the new terminal expansion at the SeattlePort of Authority, SeaTac International Airport.
Working directly with ISEC, Inc through Clark Construction on this project exquisitely designed by SKIDMORE, OWINGS & MERRILL.
Our linear bar grilles were utilized in multiple locations and applications throughout the terminal.
The Advanced Architectural Grilleworks engineering team was instrumental in designing a unique, proprietary, mounting solution to ensure significant lateral weight bearing, ease of installation, and aesthetically aligned bars and large, panel sections.
Load bearing requirements and lateral force thresholds were tested in our facility to ensure compliance and safety.
Throughout the project our skilled craftsmen were called upon to utilize stainless steel and aluminum, to fabricate large, custom panel units. These were installed in the main terminal area on walls, floors, ceilings, baggage claim, waiting areas and escalator approaches.
Linear bar orientation and positioning varied throughout as did the custom frame requirements to match surrounding millwork, metal work and curtain walls. The linear bar grilles for this project were utilized for both return and supply air movement, fire damper covers and as decorative accents.
Partnering with our team brings to you decades of experience in successfully completing the most demanding projects.
Keeping Your Projects on Track
Advanced Architectural Grilleworks was chosen to assist with the MTA’s #7 line extension, bringing subway service to the far west side of Manhattan. This historical project was the first addition to the NYC subway system in 26 years. It required a massive engineering effort and 8 years of construction. The entire project featured high-end stainless steel hardware, wall panels, architectural grilles and architectural features.
Our linear bar grilles are an integral part of the ventilation system which delivers air to the commuter platforms. These custom, 304 stainless steel grilles had to enhance the aesthetic character of the station while providing exceptional corrosion resistance, sufficient directional air flow and a lighter weight. The existing field conditions necessitated linear bar grilles that are durable structurally reinforced to withstand the rigors of a subway environment including seismic changes and moisture.
The grilles chosen were based on the AAG400, deflected bar design with custom bar spacing and height. The frames were designed to mate end to end. As an added safety feature, we provided stainless steel tethers on each grille to ensure a seismic event could be withstood.
Orlando International Airport – South Terminal C
The Orlando International Airport (MCO) underwent a $2.8 Billion expansion which was completed late 2022. The 15-gate terminal was designed by Fentress Architects, in coordination with architect-of-record, HNTB.
The Advanced Architectural Grilleworks team was invited to assist with the unique requirements for the many air columns found throughout the Landside Terminal.
These convex shaped columns contained duct openings to which our linear bar grilles had to be formed and inset.
Compounding the challenging shape, was the specified #304 alloy stainless steel material requiring special skill to laser cut without twisting or warping.
The grille panels were fitted with an L shaped perimeter, recessed style frame, which acted as a decorative, finished border after mounting into the air column.
To ensure ready to lift-off installation, we provided mock-ups to the column manufacturer so that they could test-fit our grilles in their own fabrication facility.
Our manufacturing team created custom jigs and templates to ensure every grille had exact curvature and consistency along both the horizontal radius and top to bottom slope.
All visible surfaces were finished # 4 satin, and blended throughout to avoid shadowing or darkened areas.
Our client was exceptionally pleased with the correctness of fit, ease of installation and finished look of each grille.
Our team of major project experts is ready to assist on your next airport challenge.
