Clean and Care for Grilles

We’re often asked, how can I clean and care for my architectural grilles from Advanced Architectural Grilleworks?

Depending on the Finish and Material of your hand crafted, architectural grille provided by Advanced Architectural Grilleworks, there are a number of different cleaning options and techniques.

Our craftsmen have years of experience in the metal working industry including one of the most extensive lines of shower door hardware and institutional hinges.  Skills honed over decades have enabled our team to provide exceptional decorative and functional architectural grilles and metalwork that will last for generations.

Types of different grilles:

Aluminum Linear Bar Grilles and Aluminum Perforated Grilles (aka perforated metal panels and punched metal grilles)

Satin Finish (#4) – Rub grille surface lightly with a fine Scotch-Brite pad (180 grit) in the same direction of the grain (direction of the fine lines) until the finish is restored.  You can also use a cloth with a cleaner such as Windex, or simply use a soft, damp, cotton cloth.

Mirror Polish (# 8) – Polish the grille with Noxon, metal polish and a soft cotton cloth.  You can also use Windex or a soft damp cotton cloth.

Baked Enamel and powder coat finishes – Please use ONLY a soft damp cloth, only cotton and please, absolutely NO chemical cleaners.

Anodized Color – Please use ONLY a soft damp cotton cloth, and please, absolutely NO cleaners or abrasives.

Stainless Steel Linear Bar Grilles and Stainless Steel Perforated Grilles (aka perforated metal panels and punched metal grills):

Satin (# 4 finish) – Rub grille lightly with a fine Scotch-Brite pad in the same direction of the grain (direction of the fine lines) until the finish is restored.  You can also use a cotton cloth with a cleaner such as Windex, or simply use a soft, damp, cotton cloth.

Mirror Polish (#8 finish) – Polish the grille with Noxon, metal polish.  You can also use Windex or a soft, damp, cotton cloth.  It is best to use a light, circular motion.

Brass & Bronze Perforated Grille (aka perforated metal grill or punched metal grille)

Satin (#4) -no protective top coat – Rub grille lightly with a very fine Scotch-Brite pad in the same direction of the grain (direction of the fine lines) until the finish is restored.

Satin (#4) with protective top coat – Please use a soft damp cloth ONLY.  Using anything other than a soft damp cloth may damage the lacquer.

Mirror Polish no protective top coat – You can use Noxon to regain the mirror finish.  It is best to use a very light, circular motion and cotton cloth.

Mirror Polish (#8) with protective top coat – Please use a soft, damp, cotton cloth ONLY.  Using anything other than a soft, damp, cotton cloth will ruin the lacquer.

Statuary Finish (without protective top coat) – Please use a soft, damp, cotton cloth ONLY.  Remember, without a top-coat, the finish will naturally age to a fine tone and character.

Statuary Finish (with protective top coat) – Please use a soft, damp, cotton cloth ONLY.

AAG was able to help us in a pinch, and was an overall great experience from start to finish.  Not only did we get a proposal turned around in a day, but they provided valuable input on the application of a custom bronze grille design which will make installation a breeze.  Artistry in Architectural Grilles will become our go to in the future on the rest of our projects!
